IMPROVEMENTS AT LEEVILLE PIKE AT CROWELL LANE INTERSECTION
LEBANON, TN. – The City of Lebanon has completed a highly anticipated improvement project at the Leeville Pike and Crowell Lane intersection. The project was initiated to improve safety and operations at the intersection as traffic volume continues to increase with the city’s growth.
“The addition of the left turn lanes on Leeville Pike and the new traffic signal creates a more efficient and safer intersection for our
residents,” said Mayor Bernie Ash. “I am grateful for the hard work of Commissioner Jeff Baines, Regina Santana, the City’s Engineering Department, Lee Clark from Public Works Administration, and the leadership of the City Council including Councilperson Chris Crowell, for making these improvements a priority and providing a way to improve our roadways.”
This $1.6 million project was completed with 100% city funding after initially being considered for Surface Transportation Block Grant Program through the Tennessee Department of Transportation. The City of Lebanon decided to move forward with the project on its own to speed up the process to provide a more rapid solution for residents. The work should result in improved safety, reduced travel times, increased capacity at the intersection and a more orderly movement of vehicles. Drivers are urged to proceed with caution when traveling through the intersection as traffic adjusts to the new changes.
“We have been working on securing these improvements for the last three and half years. It is exciting to have completed this much-needed infrastructure improvement in a high growth area of our city. Many thanks to those along the way who helped to make this day a reality,” said Councilperson Chris Crowell, Ward 4.
Prior to beginning work, extensive utility coordination was required for underground and above ground utilities. City crews and their contractors relocated gas, water, and sewer lines as needed. MTEMC and other above ground utilities relocated lines and poles as well. In addition to the turn lanes on Leeville Pike, improvements included grading, drainage, paving, striping and the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection.
“With the support of the Mayor and City Council, we are excited this project was completed on time and within budget. Our contractor, RAWSO Construction, was easy to work with and very responsive to any concerns we had along the way,” said Regina Santana, Engineering Services Director for the City of Lebanon. “This project required a great deal of coordination with the various utilities in the area; all of which were quick to relocate lines as needed. The Public Services staff really appreciates the cooperation and patience of our residents in the area as we worked to complete this project.”
