If you think you smell Natural Gas....
- Extinguish all open flames. Do not use matches or lights and do not attempt to light your appliances.
- Do not touch electric switches, thermostats or appliance controls. If odor is strong, DO not use your phone. All of these devices can cause sparks
- Open windows and doors for ventilation
- Leave the premises and call the City of Lebanon Gas Department at 443-2835 immediately.
- Lower your thermostat by 2 degrees and save 3%, however, do not put your health at risk. Wear warm layers of clothing.
- Don't crank the heat up to try and warm the house quickly. no matter how high the heat is set, it will warm up at the same rate. However, it is likely a thermostat set too high will overshoot the desired temperature and result in extra energy costs.
- If you have a fireplace, be sure the damper is closed when the fireplace is not in use. Heated air will flow directly up the chimney of an open fireplace damper.
- Reduce the hot water temperature on your water heater to 140 degrees or a "warm" setting.
- Take showers instead of baths. Showers use less hot water, saving gas and water.
- Use cooler wash temperatures when doing laundry.
- Keep gas clothes dryers free of lint. This will shorten the required drying time.
